2 January Fights Back

A friend of mine (who shall remain the nameless cowbell that she is) responded to chatterbrooke’s “It’s Crap Being the 2 Jan” post with the following:
Am I allowed to disagree? I think the 2nd of January maintains some momentum and celebratory air, courtesy of the holiday season and 1 Jan, plus some of the reality that the new year will bring, excitement at the first opportunity to sink your boots into things- especially because the world opens for business and you can finally start getting things done again. Much less frustrating than a public holiday full of hangovers and business closure obstacles to navigate.

I passed this message on to 2 Jan, and the following response has just landed in my inbox…I thought it best to share it unedited.  By the way, just to clear things up…I am NOT the 2 Jan, I am chatterbrooke.  I am merely passing on a message delivered to me via my dream FROM 2 Jan – think of it like a documentary-style post.  Sorry for any confusion.  I’m new to this.

“Yeah well that’d be right….sounds like a mid-March kind of date talking there, although the gutless so and so hasn’t revealed which date they really are (I have my suspicions though..).  It’s fine for all you mid-Marchers who cruise through a period where everything’s back to normal, where people are just doin’ their thing…going to work, coming home, making a Mr Men puzzle, going to bed….looking forward to Easter…

It’s not easy being a forgotten date towards the tail end of party season. It’s not easy knowing that you’re not actually the day the new year starts, whatever platitudes come your way about 1 Jan being a write-off….believe me, I’ve heard them all before. It’s not easy being the day people start shuffling back to work, grumbling into their coffees full of regrets that they’re still in this job/relationship/Datsun.  You just don’t understand.  None of you do.  And the first time I cry out for help this is what I get. Well that’s it. I quit. No more 2 Jans for you.”

Mmmnnn controversial.  I didn’t realise this blogging thing was so confrontational!
